NPE2018: The Plastics Show is where all of those who are interested in the processes, ideas, science and people shaping the future of plastics meet to explore the technology, machinery, tools and professional training in the industry while making connections with others in the plastics industry. The 2018 tradeshow is scheduled for May 7 through 11 in Orlando, however according to recent news reports those who attend will find beer and plastic in a single package at the Beer Garden, thanks to Ontario-based W. Amsler Equipment Inc.
The NPE Bottle Zone will feature Amsler, who developed a long-neck, 12 ounce plastic bottle filled with craft beer off-site in Orlando. Amsler worked in conjunction with Ontario-based Mold Spec, the company’s mold partner who provided its patented base for the plastic bottle. According to Amsler, the task was to draw the attention of attendees, and was a bit of a challenge considering the plastic bottles’ panel diameter and maintaining the correct bottle height for filling while compensating for the wall thickness of glass bottles by shortening the shoulder.
Amsler chose a monolayer structure for barrier material that would make it possible for any injection molding machine equipped for PET to mold PET preforms. The bottles were produced using a single-cavity PET stretch blowmolder.
Orlando Brewing had an existing arrangement with the Orange County Convention Center to supply beer in glass containers, however Amsler’s bottle design was approved after being reviewed by U.S. and Canada brewers. Amsler, along with Yudo Valuepro and Athena Automation designed the 12 oz., 36 gram preform which was designed to accommodate a standard metal crown closure.
W. Amsler Equipment Inc. is slated to exhibit at NPE2018 in booth S21067.
